Respect Global Privacy Control (GPC)
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a browser-based signal that communicates a user’s request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
Several US state privacy laws, including the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), require businesses to honor valid browser-based opt-out signals. GPC is considered one of these valid signals.
CookieHub automatically detects and responds to GPC requests, helping you comply with these legal obligations.
What is GPC?
GPC is a technical standard that allows users to configure their browser or extensions to automatically send a “Do Not Sell or Share” signal to websites.
- Sent as an HTTP header (
Sec-GPC: 1
) or JavaScript signal - Supported by browsers such as Brave, DuckDuckGo, and certain extensions
- Legally recognized in California, Colorado, and other US states
CookieHub support for GPC
CookieHub automatically detects the GPC signal and treats it as an opt-out from selling or sharing of personal information.
When GPC is detected:
- CookieHub triggers the same behavior as if the user clicked the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link
- If configured, this can include:
- Sending IAB GPP and US Privacy (USP) opt-out signals to vendors
- Automatically disabling selected cookie categories (e.g., Marketing, Analytics)
No additional setup is required—GPC is always enabled in CookieHub.
Optional configuration
If you want GPC-based opt-out to also block specific cookie categories:
- Go to Dashboard → Domain list → Settings
- Under Regional settings, find the region using IAB GPP (e.g., United States)
- Click Customize
- Open the Preference Center tab
- Ensure:
- “Show personal data tab” is enabled
- One or more cookie categories (e.g., Analytics, Marketing) are selected to be disabled when the user opts out
GPC-triggered behavior will follow the same logic as the “Do Not Sell or Share” link.
